Howie Hawkins, the Green Party candidate for Governor, will hold the last news conference of his gubernatorial campaign on Sunday, October 31st outside his campaign office on Syracuse's South Side.

Hawkins will contrast his Green New Deal agenda to rebuild New York State to the New York budget massacre proposed by the front-running Democrat, Andrew Cuomo, and the fast declining Republican, Carl Paladino.

Hawkins will address the scary possibility of Andrew Cuomo being elected Governor. Cuomo has run as the most conservative Democratic candidate for Governor in memory. In the midst of the deepest recession and highest unemployment since the Great Depression, he has pledged to fight unions and promote the NYS Business Council's anti-worker agenda. Instead of jobs and tax relief for working people, Cuomo promises to protect tax cuts for the rich while laying off more teachers, transit workers, and other public employees to balance the budget.

Hawkins will also address why prominent local Republicans have endorsed Andrew Cuomo. “Who needs Paladino Republicans when Cuomo Democrats promise the same type of budget massacre?” asked Hawkins. As Cuomo told the New York Post's Fred Dicker after Paladino won the Republican primary, he can do the Tea Party tax and spending cuts better than Paladino because he will do it without insulting people.

Hawkins will claim that his Green New Deal prosperity plan better represents the mainstream of new York's progressive political traditions than the austerity plans of both of the old parties.

Hawkins is a lifelong peace, justice, labor, and environmental activist. A Syracuse resident, he is a Teamster who unloads trucks for UPS, the only union member running for Governor, and the only candidate campaigning for a ban on hydrofracking and for major public investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and mass transit to put New Yorkers back to work and head off runaway global warming.
