Here's what's happening this week:
The Syracuse Downtown Farmers Market at South Salina and Washington streets will reopen Tuesday after a one-week break.
Tuesday also is the first day candidates who seek independent ballot lines can begin circulating nominating petitions.
Among those expected to circulate petitions is Howie Hawkins, who wants to challenge Mayor Matt Driscoll, a Democrat, and Republican hopeful Joanie Mahoney in the Syracuse mayoral race on the Green Party line.
Those who sign petitions for independent candidates don't have to be registered with those parties, unlike those who sign Republican or Democratic petitions.
If you fancy yourself the sweet cream filling between a musical chocolate sandwich, now's the time to have your cake and eat it, too.
Oreo Cookies are having a contest for the best jingle to be used in a commercial. Check out www.oreo.com for details about the contest. The deadline to enter is Thursday.
The Bank of America Syracuse Arts and Crafts Festival begins Friday and runs through July 17 in Columbus Circle.
About 165 artists will display their work. Artwork will be judged. Street performers and vendors also will be there.
The arts and crafts festival usually draws about 50,000 people to downtown Syracuse.
