Howie Hawkins -- the Green Party candidate vying for one of two Syracuse Common Council at-large seats that are up this year -- received $150 from the national Green Party, according to a news release from the party, which focuses on the environment and other issues of sustanability.
Of the more than 120 Green Party candidates running in local elections this year, only nine received financial backing from the cash-strapped national party, according to the release. The party says it selected Hawkins and the other candidates based on the importance of their races and the likelihood that they can win.
