Perennial candidate Howie Hawkins of the Green Party today will announce he’s runnig for a city office in Syracuse.
It will be his 15th campaign for public office. This one, he says, will be different.
"this time I have a realistic chance of winning," he says.
Hawkins, 56, has run for city, county, state, and federal offices. He won 5 percent of the mayoral vote in 2005. Last year he took 3 percent of the vote for Congress.
Hawkins will unveil a platform that includes a municipal development bank, a municipal broadband system, creation of Neighborhood Assemblies and a city income tax that would charged to commuters.

Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. on the front steps of City Hall to announce that he is running for office in Syracuse. Hawkins, 56, ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2005.
