Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo announced his plan to do away with the Wilson Pakula Act, which allows party bosses to let candidates from other party’s run on their ballot lines. The idea was quickly panned by many 3rd party leaders – as well as some Republicans and Democrats. Conservative Party Chair Mike Long admitted that this would potentially put them out of business. Dan Cantor from the working families party called it a ecipe for chaos.
But, Howie Hawkins and Mark Dunlea have a different take. Hawkins was the Green Party’s candidate for Governor in 2010. He joined Liz from Syracuse. Dunlea was the treasurer for the Citizens Party back in 1984 when they became the first 3rd party to qualify for federal matching funds. Mark joined Liz from New York City.
