SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The treasurer for two Democratic candidates for Syracuse Common Council emailed their campaign finance reports to syracuse.com Friday after a local Republican leader accused the candidates of failing to disclose their finances as required by election law.
Katherine Tuttle, who serves as treasurer for the campaign committees of Pamela Hunter and Khalid Bey, said she has sent all the required disclosures to the state Board of Elections. Tuttle said she has not been able to figure out why none of the reports since July has shown up on the Board of Elections web site.There is no record of the reports being filed at the state elections board, John Conklin, speaking for the agency, said Friday.
Tuttle volunteered to send the information to syracuse.com Friday after Tom Dadey, chairman of the Onondaga County Republican Committee, accused several Democrats of flouting campaign finance requirements. Dadey's comments came after county Democratic chairman Mark English made similar accusations against Republican candidates.
Hunter is running for councilor-at-large. Bey, an incumbent, is seeking re-election as the 4th District councilor. Both said Friday that they thought all their disclosures had been filed.
Hunter's campaign committee, Citizens Moving Syracuse Forward, has raised $21,845 since her July report on the Board of Elections web site, according to the documents sent by Tuttle. Hunter's largest donations came from Mayor Stephanie Miner's Promise PAC and from SEIU 1199 NYS Political Action Fund, each of which contributed $5,487.
Bey has raised $8,825 since July, according to the reports. His largest contributions included $1,000 from SEIU 1199, $1,000 from Mayson Properties and $500 from Pat Mannion.
