City politics as usual is funded by special interests: mostly by a relatively few wealthy people and corporations that make large contributions because they do business with the city, especially the developers, landlords, contractors, bankers, and lawyers in the real estate development sector.
The Hawkins campaign is different. It won't take money from for-profit businesses. It won't take donations of more than $1,000. Instead, it counts on a large number of small contributions from ordinary working people. See Hawkins for Mayor Campaign Contribution Policies.
